Rights Respecting School

Over the last couple of years, Broke Hall has been working towards UNICEF’s prestigious Rights Respecting School Award.  In July 2023, we successfully gained bronze status and are currently in pursuit of silver – our accreditation visit for silver is Tuesday 4th June 2024.

UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working for children and their rights. In 1989, governments worldwide promised all children the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

The CRC is based on an analysis of what children need to thrive. These needs can be grouped into four categories:

  • to survive as a fit and healthy person
  • to be protected from harm and abuse
  • to develop physically, mentally and socially
  • to participate as an active citizen

Altogether, there are 54 rights.  Articles 1 - 42 apply directly to children.  Articles 43 – 54 relate to how adults and governments work together to support and promote children’s rights.
