Philosophy Day

Philosophy is the exploration of the basic ideas we hold about life, truth, being, knowledge, right, wrong and religion.  For our first Philosophy Day, we explored ideas of acceptance, bravery, language and thought in response to pictures and stories.  Over lunch, the children chatted about whether they would rather eat raw onions or worms; whether it was better to be kind or honest and what they daydreamed about, along with many other tricky or fun questions on our conversation cards.  The aims of philosophy for children are to enhance thinking and communication skills, boost confidence and self-esteem and promote good behaviour.  We all had a great day and some very thoughtful responses were heard and shared.
