Reading For Pleasure

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

A love of books and literature is one of the greatest gifts we can bestow on young people. The benefits of reading go beyond the intellectual with research showing that readers enjoy better social relationships, better mental health and improved sleep. At Broke Hall, we focus not only on the power of reading to learn but on how reading can change our outlook, provoke thought and stimulate imagination. Each day we provide opportunities for children to read books they have chosen from our extensive library and Accelerated Reader collections or one they have brought from home. Children are also read to regularly, to promote listening, engagement with stories and to hear correct intonation. We expect children to continue to read for pleasure at home daily, including to and with their parents/carers throughout their time here, which will in turn cement a love of reading which lasts into adulthood.

Where will your reading take you?
