Homework

Spelling

We are now using CUSP spelling in lessons. This involves three 15-minute sessions each week with morning work to consolidate this learning. There will be no spelling homework/spelling lists sent home.

Times Table Rockstars

It is incredibly important that the children are fluent with all the multiplication facts. Please encourage your child to practise their times tables for 10-15 minutes a day.

Bingo sheet

A bingo sheet is sent home at the beginning of each half term. There are a range of activities (history, maths, English and reading). The children should choose one activity each week and hand this in every Monday.

Reading

We are encouraging children to read for 25 minutes a day. This can include reading to an adult, reading independently at home or during our ‘reading for pleasure’ sessions in school. The children are given time to take quizzes during the school day.

This year, we are using reading targets which are linked to Accelerated Reader. This ‘points target’ is personalised to your child and is linked to their reading ability. When your child has read a book, they are able to complete a quiz and this allows them to earn points.

At the end of every half-term, the children who have achieved their reading target will be entered into a year group raffle. This means one child from each year group will win a book of their choice (up to a value of £10). As we are already several weeks into the first half-term, the first prize will be awarded at Christmas.
